Watercolor Painting-An Aim to Add Complexity

I first started watercolor painting with a close friend of mine, about a year ago. We bought some cheap watercolor sets that we saw at a dollar store one day, and from then on would often sit and paint together. It became a time where we could talk, vent, or just paint with some music playing in the background. I loved using this activity as a time to relax, clear my mind and spend quality time with my friend. For this free inquiry project, I hope to work on learning new techniques in the world of watercolor painting and aim to make more cohesive and complex art.

I have attached some photos of some of the paintings that I have done over the last year to this blog post. The art is fairly simple, basic, and plain, but overall I like the art I have created so far. I do not use any specific technique when painting. I tend to add a light, ambiguously shaped wash of color to the page, and then use a black pen or marker to add definition or details. This is an admittedly very easy technique to use. Through this process I hope to find other blogs, YouTube video tutorials, or general techniques from the internet that can help me practice, learn, and refine various other techniques that I can use for my watercolor paintings. I have already received some ideas of things to try from talking to my pod-mates. I still only have that same cheap watercolor set to work with, but I look forward to spending time on this project.

I love this technique! A social distance watercolour hangout could be arranged if there is interest.
